The Big Raincheck is an experimental feature film containing fragments of a 1981 movie about zombies, a crazed heiress, crooked detectives, a delusional psychiatrist, and communist spies who have infiltrated Hollywood are mixed with documentary interviews about the history of the old movie; speculations exploring different ways to complete the old movie; and a fictional story which frames this movie, in which a young filmmaker begins shooting his first feature in Austin. His close friend and mentor inspires him to make this film. She is the first of his circle to die of AIDS. She eventually comes back, decades later, to inspire him to finish the film he had abandoned so long ago.
